Using Strawberry in your smoothie / juice health drinks
Strawberries can really cut through your juice with a divine sweet taste. You will be surprised how just a few strawberries can influence the taste of the multi juice recipes.
Strawberries are an ideal fruit to grow at home as they require little tending and commercial strawberries have often been treated with pesticides.
Commercial strawberries are often picked before they are fully ripe to extend their shelf life. This can leave the strawberry over firm and lacking full flavour. Avoid strawberries that are soft or shrivelled as this signifies they are past their prime.
Strawberry juice is a good source of vitamin C - strawberries contain more vitamin C than citrus fruits. Strawberries are also a source of ellagic acid. Ellagic acid is a compound which has been shown to prevent carcinogens from turning healthy cells into cancerous ones.
Strawberries should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge but are best eaten as soon as they have been picked.
